Duke is coming off a bye week and defeated the Miami Hurricanes 45-21 in Miami. Boston College is looking to end a three-game losing skid when they host the Blue Devils.

Duke vs. Boston College best odds

Duke vs Boston College picks and predictions

Duke has the opportunity to at least qualify for a postseason bowl bid, and it will secure the win and do it in high style.

The Blue Devils have a statistical edge in nearly every offensive category, and everything they do revolves around sophomore QB Riley Leonard. The sophomore signal-caller has thrown for 1,693 yards with 10 TDs and four interceptions with an additional 481 rushing yards and eight TDs.

Leonard has spread the ball around, but wideouts Jalen Calhoun and Jordan Moore are the primary targets, and RB Jaquez Moore scampered for 63 yards in the victory over Miami.

The Eagles’ defense is decent, but nothing special, and Duke should be able to move the chains on the ground and through the air. It should benefit from good field position, as the Eagles are No. 127 in the country in turnover margin, and the offense should score enough to cover the spread easily.

Eagles senior QB Phil Jurkovec was injured last week and is questionable for tonight. He’s been a turnover machine for an offense scoring just 17 points per game. He has a significant weapon in WR Zay Flowers, but the speedster has just three TD receptions over the past five games.

Duke forced eight Miami turnovers, and they’ll likely be uber-aggressive tonight against whoever takes snaps behind center. Duke allows 22 points per game, and Boston College has trouble finding the end zone, with just 68 points scored over its last five.

Duke should be able to control this contest from the opening kick-off and move the ball with a strong rushing attack and some quick passes to avoid the Boston College pass rush — and Duke will find the end zone. The Eagles’ offense has not been outstanding, and whoever is taking snaps will be running for their lives behind an offensive line allowing 28 sacks. That will lead to possible turnovers, and the Blue Devils offense will turn those errors into points and cover the spread.

My best bet: Duke -10.5 (-108 at FanDuel)

Duke vs. Boston College spread analysis

We’ve already discussed why I like the side as my best bet, but here are some additional notes:

Freshman QB Emmett Morehead may make the start for the Eagles tonight. He’s their future and completed 50% of his passes for 104 yards and an interception. He was sacked four times, and he’ll feel the heat tonight against a solid Blue Devils pass rush with 19 sacks.

If the scoring margin indicates what could happen tonight, Duke has a +9.9 margin of victory, while Boston College is 123rd in the country at -16.5.

Duke is hunting a bowl bid, and a victory Friday night will ensure it a shot at postseason play. The Blue Devils are 5-3-0 ATS and 2-2-0 ATS as the away team. Boston College is 1-7-0 ATS and 1-3-0 ATS at home this season.

Duke vs. Boston College Over/Under analysis

The 48-point total seems a bit high for this contest, and I’m leaning Under.

The Jurkovec news won’t matter because they don’t score points when he’s healthy. They can’t run the football and convert 4.1 third downs per game. Hard scoring points that way, and why they don’t.

Duke has a big offense, but it only converts 4.7 third downs per game. The Devils have enjoyed excellent field position this season, but we can’t expect eight turnovers every game.

The Under is 5-0 in the last five meetings, and I’m leaning towards that happening, especially if Jurkovec is ruled out.
