House of the Dragon’s Matt Smith questioned the number of sex scenes

Game of Thrones fans will soon be treated to a prequel series House of the Dragonfollowing the history of the Targaryen family.

The show is set to arrive on August 21 and one of its stars, Matt Smith, has teased the fantasy drama will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor with lots of steamy sex scenes.

The former Doctor Who actor takes on the role of Viserys Targaryen’s younger brother Daemon in the upcoming series and has confirmed his character will be getting plenty of action in the bedroom.

Chatting about the show, Smith recalled being taken back by the number of sex scenes included in the episodes.

“You do find yourself asking, ‘Do we need another sex scene?'” he told Rolling Stone. “And they’re like, ‘Yeah, we do.’ I guess you have to ask yourself: ‘What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time [we’re living in]?’ And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written.”

When asked if Daemon gets his fair share of X-rated scenes, Smith laughed: “Yeah – slightly too much, if you ask me.”

Smith isn’t the only famous face in House of the Dragon as he stars alongside Peaky Blinders actor Paddy Considine, Truth Seekers‘ Emma D’Arcy, Ready Player One‘s Olivia Cooke, Outlander star Graham McTavish, Fate: The Winx Saga‘s Eve Best and It’s a Sin‘s Steve Toussaint.

The story of the prequel series takes place around 200 years before the main events of Game of Thrones and is based on George RR Martin’s book Fire And Blood.

The plot will follow the story of a Targaryen civil war known as ‘The Dance of Dragons’.

House of the Dragon launches August 21 on HBO in the US and August 22 on Sky Atlantic in the UK, where it will also stream on NOW.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
